A signed agreement with an experienced mentor or organisation recognised by RVO. The facilitator may not be a family member or majority shareholder.
An innovative product or service
Your idea must be new to the Dutch market – for example in technology, production, distribution or marketing.
A step-by-step plan
A clear plan from idea to company for the coming year, with your own active role in it.
Registered at the KVK
Both you and your facilitator are registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
Enough money to live on
You can support yourself for the full year. The IND uses a monthly norm of about 70% of the Dutch minimum wage.

Frequently asked questions

Is the start-up visa a visa?

It is a one-year residence permit. Most nationalities first receive an MVV – a 90-day entry visa – and then collect the residence card in the Netherlands. Some nationalities are exempt from the MVV.

Where do I find a facilitator?

RVO publishes the list of recognised facilitators. We help you choose one that fits your sector and check the agreement before you sign.

What happens after one year?

The start-up permit cannot be extended. If your company is on track, you switch to the residence permit for self-employed persons. We plan this with you from the start.

Can my family come with me?

Yes, your partner and children can apply with you. You then need to show more income – we calculate the exact amount for your situation.

Is my idea innovative enough?

RVO looks at whether your product or service is new to the Netherlands. Book a free consultation and we will give you an honest first assessment.
